Job description: (BL5/2019) CALL FOR 2 Master RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
Applications are open for two master fellowships within the framework of project “Kraken- Ocean – Um Braço Robótico Manipulador para Operações Offshore”, OCEANERA/0002/2016, with the support of FCT/MCTES, (PIDDAC), in the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Control, Automation and Industrial Informatics

Admission Requirements:
1) Master degree* in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
2) Knowledge of MATLAB and C++
3) Research or academic experience in the scientific area specified above
4) Recognition degree for foreign applicants
*Applicants with foreign degrees shall have the degree registered or recognized/with equivalence in Portugal.

Workplan: The goal of this project is to deliver a viable robotic arm to be used underwater with an observation/intermediate class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). The fellows will be in charge of designing and development of the robotic arm hardware and control algorithms (impedance based controller). The tasks will involve mechatronic modeling, control development and integration with the complete Kraken robotic manipulator and ROV system and experimental validation.

Workplace: The work will be developed at the Scientific Area of Control, Automation and Industrial Informatics, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, Lisboa, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Professor Jorge Martins.

Duration: The research fellowships will have the duration of 6 months, renewable until the end of the project.

Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores The amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 980 being the payment method an option of the Fellows by Wire Transfer/Check.

Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following: 1) Curriculum evaluation and 2) Individual interview (if jury requires further clarification on the candidates’ CV), with the respective weight of 80% for curriculum evaluation and 20% for the individual interview.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will be communicated to all applicants by email.
